HC-One Welcomes Leading Dementia Care Expert to its Senior Team

HC-One, the leading care home provider in the UK, is delighted to be welcoming dementia specialist Professor Graham Stokes as Director of Memory Care Support Services.

Professor Stokes will join HC-One on 7th January 2018 from his current role as Global Director of Dementia Care at Bupa, in which he is responsible for leading the strategic global dementia care platform from which he has helped to elevate the quality of Bupa's dementia care across its international businesses.

Recognised as a leader in dementia care, and with an illustrious and very successful career, Professor Stokes brings significant and valuable experience to HC-One, particularly at such an important time for the organisation. Professor Stokes’ new role at HC-One will be key in contributing to the continuity and seamless integration of the 100+ Bupa care homes that will be joining the HC-One family. In addition, this appointment will also enable HC-One to enhance the care it provides to all Residents living with dementia, and will further HC-One’s aim of being the first choice care provider within each of the communities it serves.

Professor Stokes is a clinical psychologist and has been a specialist in dementia care since 1984. He has been instrumental in the shaping and communication of person-centred dementia care. In addition to his leading role at Bupa, Professor Stokes has been the Honorary Visiting Professor of Person-Centred Dementia Care at the University of Bradford since 2012. He is currently a member of the Government’s Challenge on Dementia 2020 Meaningful Care Task and Finish Group, as well as the Co-Chair of Dementia Action Alliance (England).

Professor Stokes’ career highlights also include chairing the Mental Health Foundation and Joseph Rowntree Foundation’s Dementia Truth Inquiry, being a key member of the External Reference Group which drafted the Government’s Five Year National Dementia Strategy, and sitting on the Prime Minister’s Challenge on Dementia Design and Implementation Group for the 2012 and 2020 strategies. He was also invited to be a representative at The G7 Global Dementia Legacy Event in Tokyo to discuss New Care and Prevention Models.

With Professor Stokes leading HC-One’s Memory Care Support Services, HC-One will continue to seek to provide the very best and kindest care across its homes and build on the 9.4 average rating on the sector’s leading care home comparison website www.carehome.co.uk. The rating puts HC-One homes into the very best company in the care home sector.

Justin Hutchens, Chief Executive Officer of HC-One, said:

“We are honoured to welcome Professor Stokes to the HC-One family. He has unrivalled experience and expertise - which in itself is a testament to the calibre of talent within Bupa – and his appointment is a significant milestone for HC-One.

“Professor Stokes’ appointment is demonstrative of our commitment to delivering the kindest and most professional care and services to Residents living with dementia. I very much look forward to working with him to provide sector-leading memory care services across our growing family of homes.”

Professor Graham Stokes said:

“I am absolutely delighted to be taking up this new role at HC-One, particularly as it welcomes some of the Bupa homes to its portfolio. I have been inspired by HC-One’s unwavering focus on kindness and I am looking forward to building on this with Justin Hutchens, Dr Chai Patel and the entire management team, and working together to enhance the person-centred memory care that HC-One provides to Residents across the UK.”
