Art extravaganza at Merthyr Tydfil care homeResidents at The Daffodils care home in Georgetown, Merthyr Tydfil have enjoyed showcasing their inner artists after being inspired by Care Home Open Day 2019, which celebrated art in care.

Josephine Williams, a Resident at The Daffodils care home, has expressed a keen interest in arts and crafts since living there. As part of her art journey, Wellbeing Coordinator Jo Turpin has introduced Josephine to canvas art.

As a beginner, Jo introduced Josephine to block painting, a technique which is a simple yet effective method of using acrylic paint.

Josephine has enjoyed learning how to mix paints to create different shades, as well as learning about different textures and tones.

Arts and crafts are popular amongst Residents in The Daffodils due to its proven links to enhanced wellbeing and its impact on mindfulness.

Josephine said: “I had never tried acrylic painting before and had also not used canvas. I am really enjoying it and I hope to do many more canvas paintings and adorn the walls of The Daffodils.”
