August news from Willow Brook care homeResidents at Carlton’s Willow Brook residential and residential memory care home have had an August to remember with many activities to choose from.

Firstly, there was a flower arranging workshop organised by Colleagues. Residents enjoyed arranging flowers into vases to be placed around the home.

A handful of Residents attended, even though a couple thought that were not creative enough to do it. But with some encouragement, thoroughly enjoyed participating!

To coincide with the theme, Residents also enjoyed decorating their own flower picture using crepe paper.

The best part of the activity was where the Residents were showcasing their arrangements. One Resident said, “It has brought back many memories of childhood.”

Today the Residents were treated to an outdoor entertainer coming to see them out in the garden. It was a lovely sunny day and Residents sat outside under the gazebos while listening and watching intently to the singer.

All the Residents, who were able to join in the fun, were wearing hats, oversized colourful glasses, shaking maracas or tambourines and singing along to many songs from yesteryear.

The Residents enjoyed singing and some got up to dance too! One Resident, JB, said, “I wish this could carry on all evening!”

Another celebration this month was ‘World Beer Day’. On 6th August Residents at enjoyed some beer tasting.

Colleagues held a group discussion with Residents about the different beers you can get now, and the Residents "filled" a printed 2D pint glass with what they like to drink and when as an activity (in pen of course!)

A ‘Beer Bingo’ and music quiz were also part of the fabulous day!

One of the Residents joked, “My favourite drink is a whiskey and lemonade, and my favourite time to drink is when it's in my mouth!”

Marie Duke Parker, Care Home Manager, remarked, “It has been lovely seeing all the Residents and the staff have fun together in these activities.”
