Big 100th birthday for Resident at Huddersfield care homeIrene Ellis, a Resident at HC One’s The Oakes care home, celebrated her big 100th birthday today.

Irene Ellis, born 3rd September 1920, had her birthday celebrations at the Huddersfield care home today although slightly different than usual due to the pandemic.

Irene was born in Padiham, close to Burnley, where she worked in the mills. She grew up and met her husband Walter Ellis, who she had two sons with, and now has 5 grandchildren!

When asked about her secret to long life is Ellis responded with ‘hard work’. She is a lovely lady and has always put her all into everything she does.

On her birthday Irene had lots of cards and presents sent into the home from her loved ones, and opened them as she looked amazing in her tiara and 100th birthday banner.

There was plenty of snacks put out and other Residents joined in wishing Irene a very happy birthday. Plenty of mocktails were available too so everyone could raise a glass for her big day.

The theme for the party was of course the 1920’s; Colleagues at the home dressed up and a member of the team even got up and sang, it was a brilliant day at the home.

The Residents were singing along and dancing, especially Irene who has always loved to dance! Everybody really enjoyed the singing too.
