Broadway care home Residents enjoy a spot of gardeningResidents at HC One’s Brompton House have been spending time out in the garden, and getting into the green finger spirit!

Over the past few months, the Broadway care home have received some free plants from local veg growers after advertising through their gardener, Roger.

Colleagues and Residents have been patiently waiting for the flowers to share the fruits of their labour, spraying away green fly and watering regularly.

Everyone has had a lovely time seeing who could grow the biggest sunflower and even some tomatoes are starting to make an appearance now too.

One Resident commented “It’s nice to see some hard work paying off. It reminds me of going to the allotment as a child with my granddad”, whilst another said “you can’t beat home grown veg!”

One Resident has been concentrating on growing his French beans, which have grown from seeds that his family sent in the post.

Google is everyone’s new best friend on finding out how to care for different plant types and what can be grown next!

It has been an emotional ride thinking one day the plants might die from the typical unpredictable British weather, one of the larger runner bean plants even collapsed in the wind, so Colleagues used some structured engendering skills to secure him.

Everyone is hoping for a healthy harvest in the next few months.
