Cake making, baking and decorating at Newton care homeAt the Sycamores residential and residential memory care home, in Newton, some Residents have been getting creative in the kitchen making some delicious cakes.

A small group of Residents, including those pictured Marion Oliver, Joan Fogg, Derek Tilley and Joyce Preedy, enjoyed a session of cake making, baking and decorating this afternoon. This included pouring in the batter mixes, cracking some eggs, adding the water and vegetable oil and melting butted.

Mixed all these ingredients together, Colleagues then split the mix into small portions for each person to fill some cupcake cases.

They then popped the mix filled cases into trays and they were then taken to the kitchen and baked.

The Residents then enjoyed decorating their buns with things such as icing sugar, chocolate sprinkles and icing paper.

Marion commented, “I haven’t made cupcakes for years, it reminds me of being at home cooking with my grandchildren.”

Renee Bell, Wellbeing Coordinator who organised the activity said, “We had some real bakers in the session!”

Carol Potts, Care Home Manager, added, “Well done to Renee for involving the Residents in not only a physical activity but also stimulating and engaging. The Residents were really proud of their bakes which is lovely to see!”
