Chinese New Year preparations at County Durham care homeResidents throughout HC-One’s St Margarets care home in Crossgate have been preparing for Chinese New Year by making beautiful lanterns.

Now Residents are looking forward to hanging their Chinese-style lanterns ready to celebrate the year of the ox on Friday.

One Resident commented: “The lanterns are so colourful. They bring back memories of the lanterns we made when I was teaching.”

Over the week, the home’s Chef will be making various Chinese-inspired dishes for Residents to taste test.

The Residents' delicious feast is well-deserved after a month of keeping fit as part of their own new year’s resolutions.

Everyone at St Margarets started the year with an air of positivity and decided to keep active by taking part in virtual exercise programmes with fitness guru, Joe Wicks.

After taking part in the exercise class and feeling energised, Residents were able to relax and craft their beautiful Chinese lanterns.

St Margarets Home Manager, Katherine Swainston, said: “It’s amazing to see how energetic some our Residents can get!

“But seeing all of our Residents get involved with the lantern-making was lovely. It’s great to do things that provide inclusion for everyone.”
