Clay modelling at Buckinghamshire care homeToday at Highclere, in Milton Keynes, which offers nursing, residential and residential dementia car, Residents enjoyed an afternoon of modelling clay.

The Wellbeing team brought some modelling clay into the home for Residents to get their fingers into. Not only is it a nice creative experience, but it is also a really good hand/finger exercise. An animal theme was decided so everybody got to work in creating their favourite animals. Residents could choose which colour clay they wanted, then began passing the clay between each hand to soften it up.

This made it much easier for Residents to flatten it with their hands when the shape cutters came out. A range of different animal shapes were available, including; cats, crocodiles, dolphins and ducks.

Residents had great fun in using the clay and were all fairly pleased with how the animal shapes turned out. Staff commented that they wanted to spend all day doing it with them!

Betty, a Resident at Highclere said, “I used like to using modelling clay with my daughter when I was younger”.

The Home Manager Gigi said afterwards that “Its great an activity like this is really fun and also doubles up with good hand exercises for the Residents”.
