Coffee morning and reuniting Residents at Westwood LodgeIt’s been a busy few days for Residents and Colleagues at HC-One’s Westwood Lodge nursing and end-of-life care home, in Brookview, as Colleagues have been busy with the annual coffee morning as well as reuniting Residents with Relatives.

Today the home celebrated their annual ‘Macmillan Coffee Afternoon’ where Residents enjoyed lots of amazing cakes, tea, coffee and other refreshments.

Staff kindly donated money towards the charity by buying cakes or just donating and so far, they have made £50 for Macmillan!

Care assistant Cheryl won “Best Baker” and Resident Harry Prescott (pictured) thoroughly enjoyed the cakes!

Fellow Resident Mavis Farrell, commented, “The cakes were lovely, and it is a lovely gesture to raise money for Macmillan.”

Home Manager, Lorraine Young, remarked, “The cheesecake was amazing!”

Following on, today at Westwood Lodge Colleagues were able to make a family’s wishes come true.

Mary Richards, who is a Resident living at Westwood Lodge, has not seen her granddaughter for some time now due to ill health and coronavirus restrictions.

Mary and her granddaughter are both receiving palliative care, which has made it extremely difficult for them to visit each other. Mary was originally in a top floor room and is only able to sit out for a short while. Mary’s granddaughter also uses a large wheelchair, which unfortunately made it difficult to see her.

Colleagues knew that somehow, they had to reunite Mary and her granddaughter one way or another.

Yesterday a ground floor room become available, and the staff all worked together to move rooms so a visit could be arranged.

Mary and her daughter were so happy about this and couldn’t thank the staff enough, “Thank you, it means so much to us.”

Lorraine said, “Today the visit went ahead. The look on Mary, her daughter and granddaughter’s faces were heart-warming and so precious. We are so happy we could make this happen for the family.”
