Colleagues helps Residents keep in touch with loved ones at West Midlands care homeA Colleague at HC-One’s Dovedale Court care home in Wednesbury has received a very special thank you after she helped a Resident write a letter to his Granddaughter.

The Residents Granddaughter regularly writes to him at the home. But with no response, Nursing Assistant, Louise Gibbons, took it upon herself to help the gentleman write a letter back.

The Resident has a great sense of humour and had Louise in stitches as he dictated would he would like to say.

Louise wrote the letter word for word, sarcastic comments and all, and sent the letter off to be delivered to the Resident’s Granddaughter.

The Resident’s Granddaughter commented: “The letter made me laugh, smile and cry. I never expected a response as I know what my Grandad’s like!”

His Granddaughter was so pleased with the letter that she dropped off a beautiful bouquet of flowers for Louise to say thank you for helping him and for finally getting him to write back to her.

Louise humbly accepted the lovely gesture, stating: “I don’t know why I was given flowers. I was just doing my job!”

Louise went above and beyond her duties to make sure that Residents are maintaining their relationships with their families – something particularly important given the current coronavirus pandemic.

Dovedale Court Home Manager, Dawn Allen, said: “All the staff at Dovedale are working very hard to ensure that relationships between Residents and their families are the best they possibly can be.”
