Decorating the Kingsway lounge at Ashton care homeResidents at HC One’s Amerind Grove care home got involved with a spot of decorating to improve the Kingsway Lounge.

Across the month of September, the wellbeing team and the Residents of the Ashton care home, decided that the lounge required a revamp.

The Residents were involved in deciding the colour schemes and themes. One of the Residents, a gentleman named Christopher, was heavily involved in physically decorating, this included stripping wallpaper, painting picture frames, accessories and the walls themselves.

This a great example of resident involvement and making them feel as though this is their home. Christopher engaging in the decorating process is a fabulous example of domestic opportunity and he has said he enjoyed doing it very much.

All the Residents thoroughly enjoyed watching the process of the revamp. They all loved discussing and being part of the decision-making process in regard to the final look.

The feedback has been very positive, from both staff and Residents, many have said how homely and fresh it now looks. Some of the Residents commented included “it’s so pretty, I love the blue accessories and the blue fireplace” and “it looks beautiful.”

The home manager said “The Residents of Kingsway and the wellbeing team have done a wonderful job, I’m so pleased that the Residents have somewhere pretty and homely to enjoy spending their time in."
