Dudley care home Resident rediscovers love for creationA very special Resident at HC-One’s Ashgrove care home in Dudley rediscovered her love and talent for flower arranging.

During the first lockdown last year, to keep herself busy with all the free time she had, Ashgrove Resident Jean, rediscovered a couple of talents she had when she was younger.

Jean has rediscovered her love for flower arranging and drawing. Colleagues have supplied Jean with a big bunch of flowers, which she can play around with and arrange to her liking. She always likes to add her own little twist to things, so will sometimes add a bauble, or more recently, she has added a scarecrow and calls it Eric after one of the homes nurses.

During lockdown, Jean has also rediscovered her love for drawing. Throughout the past year Jean has drawn many things, including every member of staff at the home, their pets and more.

“I forgot how much I used to love to do this, but of course, life comes along and you have different priorities,” said Jean.

Jean draws the staff as how she sees them, one she will see as an angel and another as Marilyn Monroe and will draw them accordingly to what influences her perception of them.

Jean loves using her imagination, on a daily basis, and she loves to be surrounded by her flowers and art equipment which creates a calming and creative atmosphere for her.

Ashgrove Home Manager said: “It is nice to sit with Jean as she tells the story of the image she has in mind.”

“She is very creative and very talented.”
