Essex Resident becomes draughts care home champion on his first time playingOne Resident defeated his competitor at draughts after just learning the rules at HC-One’s Godden Lodge in Thundersley, Benfleet.

John found the game of wits and strategy in the games area and was curious about the rules.

Chloe, a Colleague at the care home, was a fan of the game and taught John the rules.

After a couple of attempts John became a draughts pro and was soon beating Chloe at her own game, even while he was in the middle of eating a bowl of cornflakes.

The pair shared laughs as John joked: “Well, I don’t know how she taught me to play, she’s not very good at it!”

Chloe admitted defeat and was impressed with John’s excellent concentration as well as his multitasking skills.

Learning a new skill and winning the game on the very same morning must have been a phenomenal way to start the day.

Well done, John, keep up those victories.
