Falkirk care home Residents engage with new musical instrument appResidents at HC-One’s Kinnaird Manor care home in Falkirk recently immersed themselves in a new musical instrument app for tablets, helping them engage their minds with some cognitive musical exercises.

Colleagues at Kinnaird Manor downloaded a musical instrument app on their tablet and decided to take it around the home to see how Residents reacted to it. It is just a simple colourful xylophone that Residents play with on the tablet, but it seemed to encourage some of their more withdrawn Residents to engage with it.

Ernie, a Resident at Kinnaird Manor had a go of the app and was able to copy whatever pattern the Colleagues gave him to copy, although he did keep checking the back to see where the music was coming from, he definitely benefited from the app.

Ray Scott, a Resident a Kinnaird Manor said: “That’s lovely music.”

Other Residents interacted with the app including Isobel. Every time she hit a note she looked at staff in surprise.

Yvonne, a Care Assistant at Kinnaird Manor said: "It’s amazing how something so simple can be so effective."
