Gittisham Hill House make poppy treeThis year, Colleagues at Gittisham Hill House care home, in Honiton, Devon, decided that because of lockdown, they would do something a little different for Remembrance Day…

Jill Watts and Marie Bourne, Wellbeing Coordinators, worked with lots of the Residents joined in with making paper poppies to attach to a tree at the home, and this in turn sparked lots of conversation surrounding the old days and living in wartime.

“This brings back lots of memories of days gone by,” explained Barbara Harrop, who is a Resident at the home.

Residents watched the remembrance coverage on the television and all enjoyed tea and cake after all their hard work. They really enjoyed both making the poppies and watching the parade.

Jean Meecham, who also lives at Gittisham Hill House, remarked when admiring the tree, “Doesn't it look lovely. So bright.”

Marita Westaway, Home Manager, commented, “It was a different way to remember this year, but very impressive.”
