Residents at HC-One’s Quayside care home in Yoker have been spreading a little sunshine throughout their local community to cheer the area up during lockdown.
The home has a long-standing partnership with Yokerburn Nursery who normally visit every week and join in with the Residents’ arts and crafts sessions. Unfortunately, lockdown put an end to this.
One Resident commented: “I like seeing the wee ones smile, we miss not seeing them.”
Despite the long distance, Residents have been keeping in touch with the little ones at the nursery by exchanging photos and letters. This week they decided to send some sunshine to the nursery and sent them sunflower seeds along with some very sweet messages.
Quayside Home Manager, Liz Campbell, said: “We have had a very successful friendship with Yokerburn for a long time, it’s amazing how much cheer the children bring to the Residents. I’m sure they will enjoy planting the sunflowers.”
While writing to their friends this week, a Colleague at the home made an incredible discovery about one Resident. While she was browsing a local Facebook page, Quayside Housekeeper Kirsteen Mclerie found a photograph dating back to 1931.
She was surprised to see that Rachel Gorman, a 103-year-old Resident, had been crowned ‘Lammas Queen’ during a local Lammas Day festival.
As some Residents got to know their friends at the nursery a little better, Kirsteen spent some time with Rachel as she told her the wonderful tale of that day and the incredible outfit she wore.
Kirsteen commented: “I look at the Facebook page every day and it was such a surprise to see Rachel. She hasn’t changed!”
