Going back in time to 1940s Britain at Manchester care homeAt Westwood Lodge care home in Manchester, Residents and Colleagues travelled back in time to the 1940’s and brought Residents their favourite and popular cuisine from the 40’s (which isn’t so popular now!) as well as refreshing drinks.

The Residents enjoyed eating tripe with lots of vinegar. This is an edible meat that comes from the stomach from various different farm animals. They also indulged in ox tongue, the classic Victoria sponge cake, apple pie, short bread biscuits and vanilla slices.

One Colleague said, “While eating, Residents reminisced about their memories and loved eating the food which they remembered from their childhood. The tripe and ox tongue went down a treat!”

Resident Maureen Morley remarked, “Tripe is my favourite food”.

Piers Bacon, Deputy Manager at Westwood Lodge, commented, “The afternoon went down really well with the Residents, this will now become a more regular thing and we will continue to travel back in time.”
