Harsh times strengthen relationship between Wednesbury home and schoolDovedale Court care home in Wednesbury, west Midlands, has had a very good and strong relationship with Holyhead Primary School throughout the past years therefore it was extremely important to make sure that this continued, even when visiting wasn’t viable... so this is what they did.

Prior to the pandemic, the school and the home had a buddy system between the pupils and Residents. It was called ‘You’ve got a friend in me’, from the famous Toy Story soundtrack.

Throughout the last few months, the children and Residents continued to write letters to one another. The children did not want the Residents or staff to feel forgotten and everyone was so made up whenever they received a special message.

Holyhead Primary even made a wish tree for the Residents where notes, messages and wishes had been wrote down and hung on it; see pictures of two Residents admiring the tree.

On 10th September, Dovedale Court was asked to go on BBC local radio to talk about this with the school’s headmaster, to talk about the relationship the school and home has.

The school had also sent gifts to the Colleagues for their hard work and commitment to the Residents through the pandemic.

Dawn Allen, Home Manager, stated, “The home and Residents will continue to build this relationship with the school, even through these hard times. Residents are of course missing seeing the children in person, but really enjoyed reading the letters and wishing tree messages.”
