For Residents at Stockport’s residential and nursing care home,
Newlands, it has certainly been a summer to remember with plenty going on including celebrations and lots of fun and engaging activities.
At the beginning of the month, Kath, Mureen, Enid, Norma and Thirza, who all live at Newlands, did some flower arranging and it was a little special because a new Resident, who usually does not like leaving her room, joined in.
Norma, who has not been at the home long, commented, “I really enjoyed that, thank you.” Her arrangement was voted best by everyone so it was put in pride of place so everyone could see it as they passed by to the dining room.
On 5th August, a spa day was held at Newlands so that Residents could relax, have a pamper and enjoy a very chilled out session. Gladys, Joyce and Enid all joined in and loved having their hair, nails and feet pampered.
Gladys loved the whole of the session and remarked, “Wow, that is very nice!”
The following day, chair Olympics came to the care home to coincide with the remarkable success of Team GB in the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
The competition included, tin can ally, beanbag basketball and ten pin bowling. Colleagues also set a game console up so that Residents could have a go at playing tennis.
Vera, who is also a Resident at the home, won both beanbag, basketball and tin can ally. Whereas fellow Resident Marg won ten pin bowling by hitting a double strike!
Marg and Thirza had a go at the tennis but were laughing so much that they couldn’t get a proper game in - they had such a great laugh which was brilliant for everyone to see!
One of the Residents said, “I did not think I would win but I love my medal. Thank you that was so much fun!”
Also, this month, Rebecca said goodbye as the home’s manager and had a leaving do with fellow Colleagues and Residents.
Rebecca has been at the home for nearly a year and fellow Colleagues wanted to give her a great send off!
A meal was followed by flowers from the home’s new manager and Area Manager. All the staff and Residents are sad to see her go but wish her all the luck in the world of her new job.
Rebecca commented, “Thank you everyone, I will miss you all!”
On 8th August, it was a very special day for one lovely lady at the home, Margaret, who turned an amazing 106 years old!
To celebrate, Colleagues had her favourite lemon drizzle cake make and decorated her room with bunting, banners and the giant number balloons (see pictured top).
Colleagues then gathered in her room with her son Tim and all sang ‘Happy Birthday’ and ‘For she’s a jolly good fellow’.
The card from the Queen is her 6th one and she now has a lovely collection of them.
Amcia Hara, Care Home Manager, said, “We gave her gifts from us all and Tim cut the cake, which was delicious. Later Tim took her out for lunch and she really enjoyed her day.”
“We had to go all out for Margaret, it’s not every day a girl is 106 years young!”
