A Resident at HC-One’s Hinckley Park care home in Hinckley, shared his knowledge and love for the history of Hinckley with his fellow Residents.
Hinckley Park Resident Michael Roberts was once a writer for the Hinckley Times. He's also contributed to several books on local history as well as writing his own book ‘A Glimpse of Stocking Plus Lots More Not Quite So Shocking Memories of Hinckley’, which was published in 1999.
As a veritable font of knowledge, Michael is all too keen to talk about his love of the local area as well as the rich history that runs along the streets of Hinckley. Part of his job involved public speaking so when staff asked him to talk on the local area, Michael readily agreed.
On April 12th, Michael found himself with a crowd of Residents and staff, all eager to hear what he had to say. And what a treat it was. Colleagues and Residents learned of the RAF bases that used to be in the local area, a meteorite that fell on Barwell
, and a handful of spooky ghost stories.
Colleagues are hoping that they can talk him into doing another talk for Residents in the not too distant future.
Residents loved listening to the ghost stories especially, which had them on the edge of their seats.
Hinckley Park care home Manager, said: “What a thoroughly enjoyable day we all had, learning lots of information that we didn’t know about Hinckley.”
Ideally located overlooking Queen’s Park in Hinckley, Leicestershire, Hinckley Park is a friendly, purpose-built care home, offering residential and nursing care.
