Huddersfield care home Residents send thoughtful cards to each otherResidents at HC-One’s The Oakes care home in Huddersfield have been crafting and sending cards to the Residents of another home as part of ‘Send a Card to a Friend Day’.

Residents unleashed their inner artist and made incredible homemade cards using resources from the home’s arts and crafts cupboard. They drew, painted and sketched on coloured card before finally completing their cards with a very special personalised messaged for the intended recipient.

The activity put a fresh spin on card-making and gave Residents a sense of purpose, knowing that their card will mean a lot to their fellow Resident.
One Resident commented: “It’s nice knowing that this letter will mean something to someone the same age as me.”

Residents on both floors of the home took part, making 20 cards in total that are now ready to be mailed to local care home, HC-One’s The Denby.

The inspiration for the activity was ‘A Letter from Louise’, a charity initiative that couples pen pals together in a bid to tackle loneliness and isolation.

The Oakes Home Manager, Macheala Parker, said: “It’s lovely to see all the arts and crafts resources being put to good use and it’s great to see how they’re engaging with them.”
