Hyde Nursing host baking dayColleagues at Hyde nursing and nursing memory care home, in Greater Manchester, believe that baking is a science. Each ingredient must be measured out and the recipe followed exactly in order to get something edible at the end. And that’s exactly what one Resident was focussed on today.

This was a particularly difficult task for Resident Mary (pictured). However, everyone has been pleasantly surprised that with willingness, time and effort, Mary proved to herself that she could concentrate, stay calm and create something with her own hands; some delicious cakes!

One Colleague commented, “Paying attention to what she is doing is much easier when there is an obvious (and in this case, delicious) reward for her hard work.”

The other Residents complimented her and enjoyed her cakes which meant the world to Mary. She enjoyed being in the centre of attention and it looks like she will have to make baking a regular thing!

Mary's favourite part was mixing the ingredients together and decorating the cakes. She remarked, “"I am feeling so good! I am so happy! Thank you."

Irina Babici, Care Home Manager, said, “I am proud to witness my kitchen staff and their involvement in improving our Residents’ self-esteem and empowering them to express themselves!”

“Mary enjoyed herself, could not stop laughing, showing others her creative side.”
