Hyde care home opens newly refurbished salon to ResidentsResidents at HC-One’s Sycamores care home in Tameside have recently been invited to visit the homes newly refurbished salon, which has gone down really well with Residents.

Colleagues at The Sycamores have spent a lot of time and effort refurbishing their hairdressing room to give Residents a fresh sense of an outing in this difficult time. After getting ideas from and involving Residents with the whole process, the home has now opened the doors to their brand-new salon.

The Residents took part in the décor of the room, by helping to choose a colour scheme and types of wall décor. They also mentioned old fashioned salons which they would visit in their younger days; and the type of décor they had, so Colleagues set up a Resident Group to discuss how to redecorate the room.

Using ideas that the Residents had discussed during their meetings, Colleagues were able to customise the salon to their liking. They sourced retro salon related pictures and old familiar pictures the Residents would recognise which were framed and hung upon the wall.

Since opening the new salon on Monday 8th March, Residents have been overjoyed with the end result of the room and many have commented on how great it looks and how they feel they have left the building when they enter the room.

The Sycamores Home Manager Carol Potts said: “I think Renee, our wellbeing coordinator, has done a brilliant job refurbishing our salon.”

“I think it’s fantastic that it looks fresh and modern but also incorporated suggestions from Residents and what they would find familiar.”
