July news from Pennwood LodgeAt Pennwood Lodge residential and nursing memory care home, in Wotton-under-Edge, it has been a very busy July indeed with plenty going on.

In mid-month, Residents celebrated England's achievement in reaching the final of the Euros and sat watching the final between England and Italy in the well decorated lounge at Pennwood.

Staff and Residents had made the decorations the day before and on the day of the game, they were put up in the lounge. Staff painted their faces with the England flag which everyone loved!

There was snacks and a glass of beer available for the Residents to enjoy. Although, it was a late night for some and not the ending they all wished for. Nevertheless, everyone enjoyed the evening and mixing together with a glass of beer and waving the flags at such an exciting occasion.

Also this month, the home has built up their connection with the local area by taking part in a primary school project.

Kingswood primary school and Pennwood Lodge have been keeping in touch by doing joint projects throughout the year.

This month, the children presented the home with some fantastic decorated animals and Residents loved looking at the colourful concoctions, with one Resident remarking, “How wonderful, so nice to receive something from the children.”

Last week, North Road community school had designed a scarecrow trail for the community to commence in August this year, called ‘Friends of North Road Scarecrow Trail’.

The Home Manager's daughter asked Pennwood if they would like to take part, and Pennwood rose to the occasion with the Residents and staff starting to make designs.

They discovered that the mascot for North Road was a fox named Roley so decided to make a fox scarecrow in line with key workers, as they wanted to thank all the key workers for their hard work and dedication during the pandemic, (see pictured).

Pauline, who lives at the home, remarked, “This is brilliant!”

Home Manager, Sarah Daly, said, “I am so proud of Pennwood willing to participate, they have worked so hard on the scarecrow and it looks amazing.”

Finally, a very special birthday was had recently with Resident John Terry Leonard celebrating his 85th birthday.

John, who was born in Wales and is married to Mary, worked at Lister’s in Dursley all of his life and is a keen football fan, supporting Everton. He has two children.

He loves his music and also enjoys watching rugby.

John’s secret to a long life is, “Having a good woman behind you and a lifetime of football!”

John celebrated his birthday in the home’s garden with is family.
