Kenton community come together to help care home Resident celebrate 100th birthdayAfter reaching out to the local community to help a Resident celebrate her 100th birthday, HC-One’s Kirkwood Court were inundated with cards and gifts for the very lucky lady.

Given the current circumstances, normal birthday celebrations couldn’t go ahead for Kirkwood care home Resident, Edith Bryant, as she turned 100 on 12th January.

To help make sure that this very special milestone was celebrated properly, Colleagues from Kirkwood Court reached out to the local community in Kenton, Newcastle, to ask for cards and presents to be sent to the home, to make Edith’s day that extra bit special.

The response from the community was phenomenal. Kirkwood Colleagues were overwhelmed as they received hundreds of homemade cards and gifts from total strangers all wanting to ensure that Edith has the best day.

Edith has been completely overwhelmed so far with the response and gifts as well as looking fabulous for 100. Edith sat in the lounge looking out the window after lunch whereby locals came by and waved and shouted some ‘Happy Birthday’ messages.

After opening her bundle of cards and gifts, Edith said: “I am overwhelmed with the kindness and generosity of everyone. You have all made this day so special for me I thank you all.”

“It’s nice to see that there are still some good people left in the world.”

The local people of Kenton sent in hundreds of birthdays wishes to Edith, whether it be a card, drawing or a wave through the home window. This goes to show how close Kirkwood Court is held in people’s hearts in Kenton and the home could not be more grateful.

Kirkwood Court Home Manager, Angela Douglass said: “It is so lovely to share these special celebrations with Edith and I am just glad we could make it the best we could in this situation.”
