Leeds care home Residents take part in nationwide bird watchResidents have enjoyed a week of bird watching and learning about their local feathered friends at HC-One’s Colton Lodges in Colton, West Yorkshire.

The Big Garden Birdwatch is an annual event organised by the RSPB to help the charity spot and understand the rise and decline of bird species in particular areas across the UK.

Residents loved getting to know their local wildlife and already had a surprising amount of knowledge about the species of the birds in the garden.

They filled up the birdfeeders in the garden and put out plenty of tasty treats in order to attract as many birds as possible.

Eloise, a Resident at the home, commented: “I really like watching the birds come to the feeders. It’s nice to see them eat the food.”

The feeders certainly did attract a lot of birds as Residents spotted and counted all the different varieties in their garden.

The Big Garden Birdwatch helps the RSPB to understand what challenges wildlife face and how to start putting these problems right to help nature flourish even more.

Colton Lodges Wellbeing Coordinator, Dan McGann, commented: “It was really nice to see Residents get involved in this RSPB watch. They knew a lot about birds that they kindly shared with the staff.”
