Marking the special day of Remembrance at Fazakerley HouseAll Residents marked Remembrance Day today as they observed the two minutes silence and decorated the dining room with poppies and flags.

All the bedroom doors had poppies on which Residents loved seeing, they also enjoyed the annual service, the songs and the flag waving

This day is particularly special for Resident Joan Jones, pictured with the flag, who lost her 18-year-old son. He was a soldier in Northern Ireland and was killed one week after joining up.

Colleagues decided that as well as remembering all those who have gone before, they would celebrate ‘her Jimmy’. Joan was smiling and was so grateful.

Joan said "I knew you wouldn't forget" referencing her son, she said, "It made my day.”

One Resident spoke about the rationing after the second world, she said "I didn't know what eggs were, I thought eggs were powder!"

Home Manager, Vee Francisco, commented, “It was lovely to see how engaged the Residents were. They were all dancing. It was lovely to hear Joan's memories of her son.”
