Middlesex care home Residents stretch it out with Zoom yoga classesResidents have been keeping fit through virtual yoga classes over at HC-One’s The Harefield care home in Harefield, Uxbridge.

Before the coronavirus pandemic, Residents enjoyed the company of an instructor from Slow Yoga, a company that teaches gentle yoga designed for senior people. Unfortunately, due to lockdown, the instructor has been unable to visit the home and Residents have missed out on the exercise as well as the social aspect of the classes.

When Slow Yoga contacted Wellbeing Coordinator, James Linton, about setting up a session via Zoom, he jumped at the opportunity. He broadcast the session over the television so that Residents could participate once again.

Judith, a Resident at the home, said: “It’s marvellous that we can start the sessions again.”

Residents are thrilled to be taking part in the workouts again to keep up their physical and mental health. Each session with Slow Yoga can be done sitting in a chair and the gentle stretches help to stimulate movement, stiff joints, coordination and circulation.

The Harefield Home Manager, Mary Nadeem, commented: “This is a brilliant way of using technology to provide a real difference to the Residents’ lives.”
