Mitcham nurse goes above and beyond for care home ResidentsOne of the nurses at Fieldway care home, in Surrey, decided to surprise all on her day off. She came into work with equipment for hairdressing and offered dos for all!

Joanna, nurse, had purchased brand-new specialist styling equipment, out of her own pocket, and was able to open the doors to the hairdressers once again, much to everyone’s delight!

And what a surprise it was for the Residents. Many of them have not had a hair cut since the first lockdown back in March, and none of them knew that this was going to happen.

One by one, the Residents came to the hairdressers to have any haircut or style they desired and Joanna did an excellent job. She received so many compliments from fellow Colleagues and Residents; and the smiles on their faces were amazing.

She even provided refreshments for the Residents, just like it was a real hairdressing salon.

Residents really enjoyed the whole experience and the fact that it was a surprise, they had some great comments:

“What a lovely surprise, it’s made me so happy to get my hair finally cut; just in time for Christmas too!"

“I love it”

“I haven't had my hair done for months, this is such a lovely surprise”

“I'm looking handsome”

Kathryn, Senior Wellbeing Coordinator, commented, “The whole experience was just so lovely and uplifting for everyone involved after the year we have had. Our nurse has said it was so rewarding to do this for the Residents; she will definitely be looking into some more days that she could come in and open up the hairdressers again.”
