Morpeth care home Residents celebrate 75th anniversary of VE DayResidents and staff at HC-One’s Foxton Court care home in Morpeth have took part in VE Day Anniversary celebrations, as parties commence across the nation.

Residents started off the day by observing a two-minute silence at 11am to remember those who died during The Second World War as well as those who lost their lives in battle before and since.

In the Afternoon Residents gathered with our Colleagues at Foxton Court to start the VE day celebrations. It started off with a VE day quiz, followed by some nostalgic 40s music with Vera Lynn and other war time classics.

Foxton Court Resident Margaret Snowball was a Wren in the army and proudly wrote an account of her time serving and was happy for the team to share it with other Residents, so they could read a first-hand account of what war was like to experience.

Residents then watched the television to see the celebrations for the 75th Anniversary and seen the famous Sir Winston Churchills famous Victory speech which proved to be an understandably emotional time for some of our Residents.

Foxton Court Resident Malcolm Harbour said: “I have enjoyed hearing about past time and it brought back some grim memories but some fond memories also.”

The afternoon then finished with a lovely cream tea, which gave Residents time to talk amongst themselves about what they had experienced all them years ago.

Foxton Court Home Manager Joanne Bulford said: “Residents, along with all of our Colleagues here at Foxton have had a lovely time and it has been a really successful afternoon.”
