Morpeth care home enjoy pumpkin carving and poppy day preparationResidents at HC-One’s Foxton Court care home in Morpeth recently took part in a a pumpkin carving activity before preparing some poppy artwork to display on Remembrance Day.

Residents started the day off carving pumpkins for Halloween, it was a great time for Residents to reminisce about when they were younger, carving turnips as pumpkins weren’t popular and were more of an ‘American thing.’

Colleagues sent the leftover flesh from the pumpkins down to the kitchen to be transformed into yummy pumpkin soup for lunch with fresh bread rolls. Residents then had afternoon Halloween themed tea with a selection of scones, cakes and biscuits and a few witches’ hats.

Foxton Court’s talented Resident, Catherine who is 95-years-old has been Knitting poppies for Remembrance Day for staff and other Residents to wear. Colleagues decided to ask for a small donation for them so they could donate it to the British Royal Legion. Catherine managed to raise a fantastic amount of £56.50 and managed to knit around 35 poppies.

Foxton Court Home Manager Joanne Bulford said: “Well done to Catherine, we are all so proud of you for what you have done and continue to be in awe of your thoughtfulness.”

This month Residents have also been making their own remembrance window on each unit using plastic bottles they painted red to make them look like poppies.

Foxton Court have a 2 minute silence planned for Sunday 8th November and Wednesday 11th November to remember all our past and present heroes.
