Newcastle care home Residents capture a moment in time for future generationsResidents at HC-One’s Orchard Mews care home in Newcastle upon Tyne recently came together to make a time capsule and filled it with a collection of items that best represent the current world that we live in.

Orchard Mews Resident Patricia put in a shamrock she made on St Patrick's day, Resident Margaret put in a poem she made, Resident’s Shirley and Flora filled it with a collection of photos and Sidney put in a copy of the day’s newspaper.

Resident Patricia Loughlin said: “They’ll get a right surprise when they dig it up.”

Other residents put in pictures they had drawn, plus a face mask and some hand sanitiser as artefacts from the pandemic. The capsule will be buried in the vegetable patch in the back yard of the home to be unearthed at some point in the future.

David Bell, Orchard Mews wellbeing coordinator said: “"I imagine whoever digs it up will get an interesting glimpse at what things were like during the pandemic."

The Residents enjoyed finding things to put in the time capsule and even prompted some Residents to reminisce about their younger days and discussed what it would be like if they opened a time capsule that was made in the 50’s or 60’s.
