North Shields care home celebrates local history with Fish Quay reminiscence dayResidents and team members at HC-One’s Redesdale Court care home in North Shields enjoyed celebrating their local history with a day dedicated to remembering all things related to the fish quay.

The North Shields Fish Quay was built in 1870 and is an important aspect of life for the local community, the team reached out to local businesses to acquire items such as old lobster pots, nets, rope, ships in bottles and old photographs of the quay.

The donated items were used to inspire conversations and memories of the quay for Residents at Redesdale Court, everyone enjoyed singing traditional local songs and reading through a book about the North Shields Fish Quay.
 
Whilst Residents shared their stories of the quay, the kitchen team prepared prawn cocktails for lunch followed by and a traditional fish and chip dinner. A great time was had by all, Redesdale Court Resident, Ron Jefferson, commented: “I remember helping to build the kipper house and the smell, to this day I can still remember the smell.”

Redesdale Court Home Manager, Daniel Ridley said: “Thank you to all of the amazing local businesses and the Habour Master for their generous donations for our day of reminiscence.”
