Nottingham care home Resident celebrates 99th birthdayBeryl Gerrard, a Resident at HC One’s Silverwood care home, celebrated her big 99th birthday today.

Friday 28th August marked Beryl’s 99th birthday, where she enjoyed celebrating at the Nottingham care home.

Beryl enjoyed her birthday cake and whatsapping with her 3 daughters; Joy, Penny and Patty.

Beryl was born in Derby and at the age of 4 her parents moved the family to Nottingham for work, where her father was a salesman. At the age of 19 Beryl joined the WAAF as a hairdresser.

Beryl’s looks and charm were quickly noticed by Arthur, after some persuasion Beryl reciprocated and they went on to fall in love and get married in1944.

They lived in Sherwood on Valley Rd and soon had children. Sadly Arthur died leaving Beryl distraught and having to bring the children up, which she did by getting a job and becoming a manageress at a greengrocers.

Beryl worked hard and made her children clothes herself too. In her spare time she also liked to visit the local church.

Overall Beryl had a wonderful birthday at the home, complete with plenty of presents and cards sent in by her loved ones.
