Oldham care home celebrate the 75th anniversary of VE DayHC One’s Avalon Park care home celebrated the 75th anniversary of VE day.

Residents at the Oldham home thoroughly enjoyed the VE day celebrations, which panned out across two marvellous days.

Residents were waving their Union Jack flags with pride, whilst singing ‘God save the Queen’.

Whilst the bunting was blowing in the breeze, Residents took time to reflect on the memories of loved ones from days gone by, and some of the fallen soldiers from the war.

Later they enjoyed some of their favourite drinks and the freshly made food prepared for the celebration. Music was playing out ‘kiss me goodnight sergeant major’ and we’ll meet again’.

One Resident commented “This song reminds me of my da’, his nickname was Corn, short for Cornelius”.

John Fullen, wellbeing coordinator, said “It was good to see Residents having a fun day while still socially distancing, it just goes to show that you can still have fun while under lockdown. It’s great for us to be able to reassure families that Residents are still going strong and are enjoying themselves.”
