Pie-making and a virtual zoo at Essex care homeResidents have enjoyed a busy few days at HC-One’s Ghyll Grove care home in Basildon as they took a virtual tour of Chester Zoo before taking part in a pie-making competition.

Residents loved being introduced to the exotic animals at Chester Zoo on Friday as their livestream introduced, fed and discussed a different animal each hour.

One Resident, Linda, even brought her favourite stuffed koala to watch the tour with her.

Everyone enjoyed learning interesting facts about the different species and they discussed which animal was their favourite and why.

A Colleague at Ghyll Grove said: “It’s lovely to see the Residents enjoying themselves and the tour was wonderful.”

But the week wasn’t over there.

Saturday brought National Pie Day and a competitive pie-making event.

Residents baked delicious lemon, cherry and apple pies, taking a few handy hints on board from Ghyll Grove Chef, Mo.

Residents loved helping make the pies as they reminisced over baking at home and their families’ special dishes.

Despite their enjoyment in making the pies, nothing could compare to finally getting to taste the finished products as Residents tried a little of each, complimenting each other on their choice of filling and decorative pie crusts.

Ghyll Grove Home Manager, Nicola, commented: “Everyone’s made such an effort. I’ve really enjoyed being the judge today.”
