Pride on the Tyne - Newcastle care home celebrates Pride monthColleagues and Residents at HC-One’s Kirkwood Court care home in Newcastle celebrated this year’s pride month by taking part in pride activities whilst dressed in colourful and quirky clothes.

Throughout the month, Residents have been involved in many pride themed activities and crafts sessions to help make props and decorations for the home. Residents have also had conversations with staff at the home to inform them on why it is important to celebrate pride month, especially within Kirkwood Court.

“With it being a celebration I am so passionate about and having strong personal connections in, it is brilliant to see how involved everyone got,” said Kirkwood Court Deputy Manager, Angela Pringle.

Colleagues organised a staff dress up day on Friday 26th June for staff to dress up as colourful as they could in support and give £2 for the Residents fund with Nicola, a Senior Carer at the home, winning first prize for best dressed.

Kirkwood Court Resident Betty Merchant said: “They should be treated like everyone else, what does everyone find so different. It’s not as if they can help it, it’s how they were born.”

Dressing up for prides and involving Residents in activities is a great way to raise money and awareness of pride and everyone thoroughly enjoyed it.

Kirkwood Court Home Manager, Angela Douglass said: “I am thrilled this is something we will be celebrating in our homes and look forward to the many more years to come.”
