Relatives use new visiting booth at Devon care homeFamilies can visit their loved ones once again using a new visiting booth at HC-One’s Gittisham Hill House in Honiton.

Lockdown has been very difficult for Residents and Relatives and for many, their only form of contact has been via phone call or Zoom.

But Gittisham Hill House have now installed a visiting booth complete with a screen window spanning the length of the room, meaning that Residents can meet their families face-to-face.

Jimmy Rae was one of the first Residents to use the brand new screen when his wife, Gita, came to visit him.

Gita said: “It’s wonderful to see Jimmy in the flesh.”

The feeling was mutual as Jimmy commented: “Oh it was very nice. It was lovely.”

Being able to see each other in real life instead of video chat makes a world of difference to the Residents and brightens up their day.

The pod follows all coronavirus safety protocols and the home is working very closely with Public Health England to ensure that everyone stays safe.

Residents hope to resume normal visiting soon as the coronavirus vaccine rolls out across the UK, but for now they are enjoying the opportunity to chat with loved ones face-to-face.

Gittisham Hill House Home Manager, Marita Westaway, said: “It’s great to start to have visitors in again, it makes such a difference.”
