Rewinding back 70 years at Manchester care homeEvery month Residents at Westwood Lodge care home on Helmsman Way in Manchester, “travel back in time”. This month, they travelled back in time to the 1950s.

The wellbeing coordinators at the home spoke to Residents and did some researching on famous foods and drinks from the 1950s. Residents remembered eating spam, burgers, milkshakes and black forest gateau.

Colleagues then used their expertise to create a trolley, and visited all the Residents with miniature beef burgers, black forest gateau and various milkshakes.

The Residents enjoyed sharing their memories with Colleagues from this era and they loved the burgers! This was their favourite out of all the foods. One Resident commented, “The burgers are amazing! I can’t remember the last time I had a cheese burger”

Mavis Farrell, who is a Resident at Westwood Lodge, also enjoyed the food, saying, “These burgers are beautiful, I really enjoy seeing you both every week and what new ideas you have come up with. I can’t wait for the next trolley!”

Home Manager, Lorraine Young, commented, “A huge well done to the wellbeing and catering teams at Westwood Lodge, they come up with some fantastic ideas that never fail to disappoint our Residents.”
