Sensory morning with tea and cakes for The HornchurchThis morning, the activities team and care Colleagues at The Hornchurch care home, in Essex, all came together to provide Residents with a sensory tea and coffee morning.

Colleagues used both real life breathing cats, balloon badminton, puzzles and many more things which engaged all Residents in a socially distanced way. This helped to keep spirits high and make everyone feel part of a group activity.

Tea, coffee, lemonade and other soft drinks were offered to Residents alongside cakes, biscuits, chocolate and sandwiches. All Residents really enjoyed this activity as it helped to bring them all together in a safe way and increase their social interaction with others. This also helped Residents intellectual health as they were able to understand the sensory motions being used to complete activities.

“This was a really enjoyable activity for Residents as it allowed them to be together but also in a socially distanced way,” explained one of the care Colleagues.

The Residents really enjoyed the sensory real life breathing cats and also the cake which was offered to them. One said, "The cat is so soft reminds me of my one from when I was a child."

Home Manager, Tania Banner, commented, “I am really proud of my Colleagues for following all distancing rules and completing activities with Residents to increase their social interaction."
