Shire the therapy puppy visits Hamilton care home ResidentsResidents at HC-One’s Douglas View care home in Hamilton were recently visited by Shire, a therapy puppy, who the Residents spent lots of time with, giving him cuddles and taking him for little walks.

Shire visited on 18th August and Residents at Douglas View were over the moon to meet their new fluffy faced friend. They can’t wait to spend lots of time with Shire and take him for lots of walks around the homes garden.

During his first visit to Douglas View, Shire got to spend time with lots of Residents and some were even able to take him a walk around the grounds of Douglas View. In particular, Resident's Denis and Catherine enjoyed spending a little moment with Shire to help break up their day. "What a lovely wee dog," Denis said.

Shire will continue to visit Douglas View every week and hopefully build up an amazing relationship with Douglas View residents.

Douglas View Resident Catherine said: "It was so lovely to see the wee dog and take him for a walk. I can’t wait for him to come back."

Shire is really important for Resident as pets, especially dogs and cats, can reduce stress, anxiety, and depression, ease loneliness, encourage exercise and playfulness, and even improve cardiovascular health.

Douglas View Home Manager, Lyndsey Barnes said: “It was great to see smiles light up our Resident's faces after a difficult few months.”
