Spennymoor care home Resident celebrates 100th birthday with familyA Resident at HC-One’s Lothian House care home has celebrated her big centenary birthday with her family under a gazebo in the homes garden.

Ivy Beddell turned 100 on 21st July and what better way to celebrate than being reunited with her son and daughter in law after lockdown. Colleagues in the home arranged for a gazebo to be placed in the front garden so that Ivy could be visited by her family on her special day whilst observing the 2-metre social distancing rule.

Ivy has a large family and whilst her son and daughter in law visited in the garden, other members of Ivy’s family stood in the car park entrance and sang happy birthday to her with banners, balloons and bells. She has been missed by them all, but they were all just happy to see her from afar.

The other Residents from Lothian House Memory care community where Ivy lives also joined in with celebrations as they waved and cheered from the windows above.

Later in the afternoon, a very special card arrived at Lothian House from Buckingham Palace, a birthday message from the Queen which absolutely delighted Ivy.

When asked about her special day, Ivy said: “I have been spoilt, thank you so much to everyone who organised this for me and my family.”

The day was finished off with a tea party and a beautiful birthday cake which was shared amongst Residents and Colleagues in Lothian House.

Lothian House Home Manager, Jill Morton-Carr said: “It was lovely to see Ivy's face light up when she saw her son and daughter in  law.”
