Tameside care home garden project stuns neighboursAt Hyde nursing and nursing memory care home, in Greater Manchester, the garden project has come to a wonderful completion and wow does it look incredible, so much so that neighbours are coming for a look!

Sprucing up the garden didn’t just happen overnight, it took time, energy, and often some frustration as well, mostly due to no experience in gardening!

Funny enough, it all started with a suggestion, when one of the home’s neighbours pointed out they could plant some flowers. Colleagues and Residents then took it upon themselves to prove that they can make a big difference to the neighbourhood.

And what a difference they made; with almost no budget, no skills, but with the willingness to do something special, they created a little piece of heaven.

Working on a shared goal everything built bonds and developed positive relationships.

They experienced fulfilling, optimistic feelings and all visitors stopped and praised the work being done and the change they made. “I do drink my coffee at the window now, just to look at your amazing garden!” replied a neighbour.

The gardening was a wonderful activity for Resident; the satisfaction of keeping the plants alive and the responsibility that comes with it gave them a sense of purpose and pride. See photos which show the progress of the garden in the past four months.

One of the Residents said, “It feels so good to see people coming, taking pictures and asking advice on how we manage to do an umbrella flower pot!”

Fellow Resident Monty Don added, “A garden is not a place. It’s a journey.”

Irina Babici, Care Home Manager, “I would like to say a special thank you to our domestic staff Lorraine and Amy for their lead and their constant work; also, I want to mention Erika for her amazing photographs and all the children that helped with painting.”
