The Royal British Legion at Woodlands View care homeEvery November the resident chef at Woodlands View care home in Stevenage, takes a week annual leave to do something rather extraordinary.

Shawn Heppenstall takes a week annual leave in order to help The Royal British Legion by standing outside shops and supermarkets selling poppies.

On Remembrance Day Shawn leads the parade by carrying the Royal British Legion's Standard but this year is different due to the National lockdown, the memorial is by invitation only.

Shawn is very passionate about being in the British Legion, he was in the army's Royal Signals Corp for four years and has been in the British Legion for the past five years.

Home Manager, Deby O'Hare, commented, “We are all so proud of Shawn for his dedication and we are all happy to support him where we can.”
