The great St. Christophers Bake OffToday at St. Christophers in Hatfield which provides nursing and nursing dementia care, Residents took part in their own great British bake off.

To celebrate the return of channel 4’s “The Great British Bake Off” which is a huge hit among the Residents at St. Christophers, everybody has been trying their hand at some baking. Residents from both communities came together and held their own “cupcake week”. Whilst instructions were handed out sent out with a traditional recipe, most already knew what they were doing and were experts in their own right.

Once all of the ingredients had been mixed together, Residents prepared the cupcakes until ready to go into the oven. Once they had finished baking, the cupcakes were left to cool down before applying any icing sugar, and throughout the afternoon Residents were deciding on what to do with them. Once cooled they were beautifully decorated with sprinkles and their favourite colour of icing sugar. Many of these cakes were used the following day at a Macmillan coffee afternoon and used to raise money for Cancer Awareness.

Speaking afterwards, Residents expressed how much they enjoyed their bake off with one saying, “It’s nice to be able to bake again after such a long time” and another said, “I’m so glad that Bake Off is back on our TV’s it inspired all of us to get baking”.

Patience, the Home Manager said, “It was lovely to see the Residents having fun while making these cakes, it was also a nice touch by them to be used on the Macmillan Cancer Awareness afternoon”.
