Vegetable patch delivers giant courgette at Surrey care homeBack in June, only three months ago, Residents and Colleagues at Adelaide House filled in the old pond and turned it into a vegetable garden for the ladies and gentlemen living there to spruce up and use it as a patch for crops.

This week, some of the crops were harvested and there were tomatoes, cucumbers, broccoli, sweetcorn and pumpkins but all of those were hidden by the giant courgettes!

The Residents don’t believe that they are from the tiny plants which were planted just a few months ago.

It’s also started a debate in the home as some believe it’s a courgette and some say it’s a marrow!

“All I know is it will probably feed us all for a while”, A Colleague said.

Resident Peggy Garnham said, “That’s definitely a marrow".

Ron Cobb commented, “look at the size of that!"

Residents said the best part was watching it grow till the end and now being able to taste the handiwork!

It’s great to see the fruits of everyone's hard care and labour.
