Walton-on-Thames Residents and a day of remembranceAt Adelaide House care home, in Surrey, they had a simple Remembrance Day this year.

It started with a two minutes silence at 11am with Westminster Abby broadcast on the television. Afterwards, they followed with their own two minutes silence with one of the Residents, Ronald Cobb, reciting a poem from his childhood that pulled on everyone’s heart strings.

One Colleague recalled, “We all reminisced about remembering neighbours, friends and relatives going off to war.”

Then Residents had the opportunity to decorate poppies to display within the home.

Everyone had a delicious roast dinner with a glass of wine or non -alcoholic beverage whilst Colleagues read ‘Flanders Fields’. There were also some quiz questions following and nine Residents happily joined in, including Joy, Kathleen, Betty, Geraldine, Marian, Reg and Eileen.

Christina Capper, Home Manager, commented, “It was a very relaxed morning and afternoon. The Residents told us that the bit they loved most was everyone being together, like a big family. They all commented on how lovely new poppy covered table cloth was as well!”
