What life looks like in lockdown at Lincoln care homeColleagues and Residents have been getting up to plenty of activities during lockdown, here is a glimpse into what’s been going on!

Life has of course no doubt been difficult during lockdown, missing friends and family has bene hard for everybody. However at the Lincoln care home they have been doing everything to keep spirits high and Residents busy and entertained until things get back to normal.

As a company we closed our doors to visitors well before the country became locked down too to ensure the safety of both Residents and Colleagues. During this time the home has kept Residents entertained by sing-alongs, reminiscence sessions, games, dancing, one to ones and lots more.

One particular lady has enjoyed Colleagues reading Ben Fogle’s The Accidental Naturalist to her. Colleagues also get a lot out of these sessions, even if some do get a little embarrassed when Residents gets sentimental and emotional as staff try to continue reading aloud while trying not to get emotional.

Even the community have got involved with keeping the home going throughout lockdown, including the LNER reserves who have not been working, who came together to create a ‘Letter to a Friend’ initiative. The home received over 50 separate pictures, poems, anecdotes, stories, jokes etc. this has provided hours of one to one time with the Residents.

The home has found new resources such as ‘Yesterday’, which is a fabulous website that tailors videos, quizzes and more, and is updated twice a week, which again provides plenty of entertainment for the Residents.

There are regular tasting trolleys that Colleagues take round home, with themes such as cakes, cocktails, cheese and wine, beer, ice-cream and more. These are always a big hit and it gives us an opportunity to chat with everyone as we go.

We have sadly lost some well-loved Residents during this unprecedented time. We remember these Residents by tying a yellow ribbon around the trees in our beautiful front garden. It’s just our way of saying goodbye and paying our respects.

Wellbeing has been at the heart of all we have done during this period and has ensured that the homes spirit has carried on. This will continue and we are all very much looking forward to seeing Relatives again once lockdown eases.
