Wigan care home Residents share their secrets to a happy marriageResidents at HC-One’s Ashton View care home in Ashton-in-Makerfield are spreading the word of love this week as they share their secrets to what makes a relationship last.

Residents have been spending time crafting cards and keepsakes for their loved ones ready for Valentine’s Day.

Among the Residents at the home are a loving husband and wife who live in different units at the home.

Due to national lockdown restrictions, the couple haven’t been able to see each other for almost six weeks. But the pair have each made a beautiful keepsake to send to one another, proving that the love is alive and well at Ashton View.

Their thoughtful gifts prompted an interesting question throughout the home; What is the secret to a happy marriage?

The Residents’ responses ranged from the heartfelt and sweet to the wildly hilarious and brutally honest.

When asked the question, Joyce, a Resident at the home, replied: “The secret to a happy marriage is to share everything, including secrets, money and love. Don’t hide things from each other.”

Another Resident, Jimmy, had a very different take on long-lasting love: “The secret to a happy marriage is plenty of booze! And always let her be right, it saves a lot of hassle.”

There were plenty of words of wisdom throughout the home that acted as a wonderful reminder in these difficult times to cherish your family and to appreciate what you have.

As well as crafting cards for their partners and family, many made keepsakes for their friends to thank them for everything they had done.

All gifts have been individually wrapped with a beautiful poem and each one has been quarantined for over three days before being sent off to their intended recipient.

Ashton View Home Manager, Jamie Duncan Noke, commented: “It was lovely to see all Residents getting involved in this activity.”
