World Photography Day at Ilkeston care homeLadywood care home in Derbyshire, celebrated 'World Photography Day’ today with two of the Residents who showed a very keen interest, as they have both worked in the photography industry previously.

Gwen (pictured left) used to restore old damaged photographs and artwork for many years and Barry (pictured right) used to own his own developing room.  Barry says he had many different cameras; however, his favourite was an Agfa 120mm zoom lens, with many different functions.  Barry went on to explain the importance of temperature in the developing process and said it really cheered him up, to speak about his passion for photography.

Gwen said she was happy to hold and look at her cameras again but said they felt heavy now she was getting older.

Alison Richards, Wellbeing Colleague, said, “These two Residents loved being reminded of their photography days. Other Residents in the lounge, spoke of times in their lives when photos were important to them, for example at weddings, holidays, and parties. It was a lovely afternoon sharing our stories together.”
